Technology and Techniques in agriculture (India)

When we hear the word "agriculture" the first person that comes to our mind is the "Kisaan" (farmer). Then the tractor, bullocks, village and the beautiful scenery.

Agriculture is still the primary occupation of the major population in India.

India ranks in the top 5 in agriculture and employed more than 55% of the Indian workforce and also contributing to the GDP.

Indian agricultural and refined foods are exported to more than 120 countries, primarily to Japan, Southeast Asia, SAARC countries, the European nation.

Involvement of techniques and technology-

Earlier farmers were not adopting any new technology and techniques but with the recent trends and changes, farmers are trying to adopt the new techniques for a smooth manner to go with agriculture.

a) Tractors for ploughing- Earlier the ploughing was done by the bullocks you might have seen for real or in a movie but now with the various finance options, farmers are using tractors for ploughing their lands.

b) Crop sensors- Crop sensors help apply fertilisers in a very effective manner. Optical sensors can see how much fertiliser a plant may need, based on the amount of light reflected in the sensor. In this way, the proportion of fertiliser is determined.

c) Weather prediction through Artificial Intelligence- Nowadays AI is everywhere, with this latest technology, it takes data from the satellite and gives info like humidity, rainfall etc. This will help the farmer in the decision making.

d) Multi-layer farming- The process of growing parallel multiple crops of different heights together in the same farm at the same time is known as Multi-Layer farming. For example, growing fruits and vegetables in the same part of the land. It is the best way to utilize the land.

There's also a lot more techniques and new technology which will be glimpsed in the coming years.

See y'all in the next blog, Cheers!
